Yes - he gave that little speech at a district band concert I was in that he conducted. Very excellent. He has as good head on his shoulders and is a good man.
In fact, I believe that the piece of music he used when we did this was Introit (Tull) and I remember that it this was the same weekend that the Columbia space shuttle disintegrated on entry. I was surprised how Stamp reacted and was affected by it -- it was very moving, especially for a high schooler.

I remember that day quite well, myself, because the shuttle was flying over my house (or pretty close, anyway) when it happened. There was a startlingly loud boom that shook the house. It sounded like something big and heavy had fallen out of the sky and hit the roof, but when I looked outside I found no debris and no roof damage. A little while later I turned on the television and learned what the terrifying noise was.
One of those awful days indelibly marked in my mind...
