 My first youtube video
Author: cigleris
Date:   2009-05-23 18:53

Hi everyone,

Today during my practice session I decided to use my mobile phone to make a video of me playing, partly for my own use to see what I sounded like. Anyway I've uploaded the video to Youtube and remember this was done in one take.

Any comments welcome.

Sounds great. Very musical, especially given the less this is not the most interesting etude.

My only main criticism is that the tempo is not super steady, the running 16th and large intervals tend to rush.

Sylvain,

Thanks for the comment. I see what you mean, but remember I was pretty much sight reading this. I was looking through all of them today and have found that you need some rubarto and pulling around or else they can sound rather static as studies.

and you did a fine job at it. The places were you pulled the tempo felt very musical.
Tom Puwalski has an impressive technical performance of this on youtube as well.

Old Jarhead is YouTube's resident clarinet curmudgeon. He leaves snarky comments on clarinetists' videos. I've noticed he especially likes to give Tom a hard time.

I thought it was very good.

By the way, how are you playing those trills near the end? My G#-A trills don't sound nearly that nice!

Old Jarhead is the alter ego of a member of this board. Alter ego, though, would imply that they are somehow different, and they actually make the same comments. Unfortunately.

mrn,

the first i'm doing a standard, the second is using the trill key no.2 (working downwards) whilst still fingering the G#

Oldjar head made a comment,

"One take or not...it's too slow and not too good!
Why don't you properly prepare one and let us see what you can do!?"

Hahahahaha, I might

If you look up Old jar head on youtube, he has two favorite videos posted. One is of Emma Johnson. 'Nuff said.

You guys are so easy...Emma Johnson can play circles around any of you. Someone must like her; she's sold over a quarter million clarinet CDs, mostly to other clarinetists! And she's cute too!

I take it that OJH hasn't posted anything of his own playing on the tube yet. Typical, it takes no energy what so ever to blast something when incapable or on willing to put your own crap out there. I'd love to see OJH play something, Maybe it's Stanly Drucker, I'd let him tell me I sound like crap!

Or maybe he's the guy in the other video in OJH's favorites.... (the YouTube Symphony audition video)

mrn,

perhaps your right, that was mediocrity in the true sense of the word.

Old Geezer,

your opinion is valid but I remember a time when she coached and taught for a brief spell at the RCM while I was there back in 2002 and quite frankly she wasn't as special as you (whoever you are, perhaps OJH?) make her out to be. Don't get me wrong, I respect her playing and the things she has done.

You might check out her web site...some interesting biographical stuff and some samples from her CDs I don't say she's the greatest ever, but she has done a lot for the clarinet.

As for the rest of it; this BB needs a resident grouch or you guys would never come to the party.

You don't have to be a baker to tell if a cake is tasty or not. Everybody knows that!

I wish I had YOUR set of lungs, kid. Great breath support! Maybe I should try playing on my side, too. Maybe that's the secret...

I was looking forward to hearing you play Mr. Cigleris. It was quite a shock that you could not walk your talk.

Good luck

Peter gets jobs and wins auditions - that's what counts, not a phone recording........
