"Valentin Uryupin of Russia eventually took first prize. He joined noted artists in performing Bartok's Contrasts for clarinet, violin, and piano.

Second prize went to Moran Katz from Israel. Chikako Kondo from Japan, and Eloise Susannah Fisher from Australia shared third prize.

Han Kim, a South Korean clarinet student who is at the tender age of 13, was honored as "The Most Promising Young Artist".

After receiving the award, he played Debussy's Rhapsody for the packed house."

Congrats to all the prize winners and those who worked hard and entered.

Michael Han Kim has several postings on YouTube which are quite impressive for a boy his age. With further study and refinement, he may well develop into the "star" of the next generation.

I look forward to hearing YouTube postings from all these names in the future.

Congrats to Valentin Uryupin. He is really fantastic clarinetist! Valentin is a student of my professor Evgeny Petrov in Moscow conservatoire.
Valentin plays Cantsona by Taneev with Chamber orchestra of conservatoire:

Wow, thanks for posting that link of Valentin.

Very nice playing, well-stated in elegant fashion with beautiful sound. Great piece of music too.

Nice that this type of playing can win competitions.

This recording of Taneyev is not his best - his Geneva competition performances were MUCH more impressive, i would say. He is real russian clarinet star and I'm looking forward for his great career.
