Barrel keeps getting stuck.

A few weeks ago, I purchased a Muncy barrel from Muncy Winds when I went up there. Now, it plays like a charm, and the sound is beautiful. I really love it. The only problem is that the barrel keeps getting stuck. Now I know I'm going to get a bunch of "well let it cool and then take it apart" comments. No. I happen to know that it's just this barrel. Since I have the Vintage, which comes with two stock barrels, I've tried both and neither exhibits this problem, even after playing for a prolonged period. The problem is that no matter how much cork grease I slather on the cork, it REFUSES to come off. After a certain point on the cork, the barrel refuses to go down any further, and after said point, it becomes stuck.

Now, usually I can remove it by pulling really hard, or if I have something with which to grip it very firmly. Today, however, twice, I had to have someone hold the barrel while I pull the top joint to get the barrel off. Now that's just unacceptable. Other than that being frustrating, I risk serious damage to my clarinet and its keywork.

Should I inform them and see if they can fix it? If I they this, will it have any effect on the sound? Driving back up there on a whim is NOT an option for me. Please help.

Have a good repair tech sand out a little of the socket on the end that is sticking. It sounds like the socket is a touch too tight. This fix should not affect the sound of the barrel, as you are not changing the dimensions of the bore.
