I want to buy a clarinet DVD for a friend who is a clarinetist and only enjoys "classical" (not jazz or pop) music.
Although I see a number of jazz DVD's which feature the clarinet (Goodman, Shaw, etc...) I'm not finding very many classical type video discs which have a clarinetist in a solo performance or recital.
Any recently released "classical" clarinet DVD's to recommend?

I have two recommendations:
A Mozart Gala in Prague in which Sharon Kam plays the Mozart on a bassett horn. She does a very nice job - maybe not the definitive Mozart for me, but a credible performance with a very small orchestra. It also contains the Overture to Don Giovanni and Symphony #38. Its a Euroarts dvd.
I also have Spohr #1 played by Curzio Petraglio with the Orchestra de Svizzera Italiana conducted by Peter Maag. The young clarinetist (who I was not familiar with) also does a nice job. Again, maybe not the best Spohr I've ever heard, but nice to have on dvd. Also included are the Debussy Prelude a l'apres midi d'un faune and Dvorak's 9th "New World". On the box it says: Nutechdigital.tv, but I think I picked it up at a Border's.
Those are the only classical clarinet cd's I know of, so I'll be interested to follow this thread and see of there are others!

I'd recommend "The Hasty Legacy". It's a DVD that covers "renowned clarinetists Stanley Hasty, Michael Webster, and Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr share their insights on technique and performance."
It has a lot of interesting information, as well at the only "recording" that is known to me of Leslie Bassett's "Soliloquies.

What about the buffet propaganda DVD of the guy that climbs a mountain and plays a piece on his buffet clarinet? I haven't seen it, but it could be interesting- mountaineering and classical music, a new sport?

Re the last post, you can call it "buffet propaganda DVD" but when I watched it I forgot it was a "commercial" because it is really a great movie. It doesn't have a lot of live music on it like concerts, but at least for me it is more interesting and better DVD than a concert DVD. So I definitely recommend this movie.

Maybe you might consider expanding your consideration to "Classical" music in general? For example I find much enjoyment from a DVD titled (approx) "Great Conductors of the Past". Or Bernstein's Mahler series with the Vienna. Just a thought.

I could send you a dvd of my recital from last saturday. ;-) Its all 20th Century music for clarinet.
Reich - New York Counterpoint
Piazzola - Four for Tango
Stravinsky - Three Pieces
Copland - Concerto
I still have to do some editing of the dvd. But let me know if you're interested.
If not, that's cool too.
