I needed a spare clarinet so I found a barely used Bestler plastic clarinet at a pawn shop. I offered $75 and since they didn' know anything about it they took the offer. I played it at the pawn shop and it played very well. The keys and corks didn't look cheap at all and the pad looked new. It really plays surprisingly well. So has anyone had any experience with the brand?

If it plays well, and you like the tone,I think you should play it till it starts to fall apart. From what I have read and heard allot of chinese instruments are hard and costly to repair. Years ago bestler did french stencils in wood. I think the chinese bought (or swiped) the brand name.I am sure someone who is more of an expert than I will chime in. Have you googled the name Bestler? I got some interesting hits when I did.

Yes I googled and seems the general opinion is to stay away from Bestler. I think most of these opinions though are not from personal experience but from the general idea that anything from china is junk. That is probably true for the most part but I got to tell you that this clarient does not look cheap. Yes it's plastic like most student instruments but the keywork looks as good as any student Yamaha or Selmer that I have seen. It sounds pretty good and plays all the way up to the very high D with no problems. I sure would like to hear from anyone who has person experience with this model.
