Does anyone know the reed instrumentation of the pit orchestra for "Oklahoma"? I play clarinet /bass clarinet. (and saxes).

When I did it on Broadway in 2002, the instrumentation had been altered by William D. Brohn.
It was a production brought to Broadway by the UK company that had so much success with it over there.
My book was Reed 3:
Clarinet
Bass Clarinet
Soprano Sax
Check to see which version of OK! you'll be doing?

When I played this in high school (1966) the clarinet book was in score format with the first part and the second/bass. I played the first part, except where there was bass clarinet.

A question to John Moses....what were the instrumentation of the other reed books in the 2002 revival? If you can't recall, I can understand.

I did an version (no idea which) That had 3 dedicated clarinet books, and a bass clarinet book. Go figure.

In our OK! 2002 revival on Broadway, the William Brohn re-orchestration was:
Reed 1: Alto sax, Flute, Piccolo
Reed 2: Oboe, EH
Reed 3: Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Sop. sax
Reed 4: Clarinet, Flute, Baritone sax
reed 5: Bassoon

John, are you sure Reed 4 has bari - not tenor? I played a run of what I thought was the 2002 version - it definitely had that god-awful soprano sax part in the Farmers' Dance - a couple of years ago, and I played the Reed 4 part that came with it. I transposed the flute parts (I don't play flute) but that part definitely had tenor and I don't remember anyone's having a bari sax in the pit. Maybe we had a revision of the revision?

I don't know what version you played, but on Broadway in 2002, Steve Kenyon played the Bari sax and sat right next to me, so...I'm sure it was a Bari sax and not the version you played with a Tenor sax.
OK! has been floating are on tour for many years, parts have been changed, lost, re-written, and even re-scored badly.
GBK listed the most common version of the original orchestration, but don't expect to see that coming down the pike!
BTW: Brohn's use of the Bari sax was excellent, so if you see it, give it a try.

I played the original 2 clarinet version twice: 1st time in 1974 when I was in high school and the 2nd time just 3 years ago for a local community theater. This 2002 version sounds like it would be more interesting in terms of reed parts. Thanks John for the update.

I played it in the 1970's with full orchestral instrumentation, 2 clarinet parts in score form, 105 pages, no tacets, fabulous!
