To clarinet players in the Sydney (Aus) area perhaps you could help me. Coming down Sydney way from Port Macquarie for some serious buying of clarinets, barrels, mpcs, etc. Could you help with what would be the stores to visit. I only know Sax & Woodwind and Allans but you may know of others.
Any preferred ones that will let you have a try?

Hi Rusty,
Sax & Woodwind in Camperdown has a good reputation. You should also give Billy Hyde Woodwind in Crows Nest a try; they had a decent selection of instruments the last time I went window shopping. Google them for address and opening hours. Allens in Pitt St city isn't much chop for woodwinds.
Good hunting.

Thanks "kenb" for that info. There seems to be heaps of online businesses selling these days. I found Frank Fordem very helpfull but unfortunately Frank died last year.
About 3yrs ago I was trying to buy a soprano sax I think it was. The store showed me some nice ones but No, No, No, I was not allowed to blow any. Amazing they would take my $3500 but would not permit a try. I went elsewhere.

kenb, I looked up the Billy Hyde address in Crows Nest but also noticed there are 7 Billy Hyde stores in Sydney area. Is the Crows nest one the preferred one or are some of the others also worth a look?

Rusty, the store in Crows Nest is the one that specialises in woodwind and brass (they took the store over from Musicorp a couple of years ago) as far as I know, the other ones deal in gear that you have to plug in.
