Reading in the archives (you guys are sure increasing my net time and costs) I found older references to Fibracell reeds at about half of what the Legere or others cost. Are they still in production, cost effective, good?

There are no comparable products as far as I'm concerned. The Legere reeds are better than anything I've tried in cane,etc. They are made with serious thought to material, changeability and quality. I use them all the time now in orchestra,solo and every other kind of playing that I do.

Hi Steve,
Jack told me that you use the Legere all the time now. I've had some success on the bass clarinet but find that the clarion register doesn't really sound. What do you do when you've been playing for a while and the reed starts to"soften"...switch to another and let the first one rest?
I've only tried one Legere on the Bb and it was too hard for me.
I have four reeds for the bass and switch them around. I used a cane reed during a concert on Sun. and was happy with the tone but not too thrilled with the flexibility. The Legere is more flexible on the bass especially in the upper registers.

Hi Everyone,
Just like Steve, I use a Legere reed on my bass clarinet all the time now. I like the consistancy. I too found that they soften a bit after playing a while. What works for me is to play with the reed adjusted up just past the tip of the mouthpiece, if I do this it will last through a 2 hour rehersal without feeling like it is too soft. I don't know of any other synthetic reeds that come in different strengths like the Legere reeds, all others I have seen come only in soft, medium, and hard. Maybe that is why Legere's work better than other synthetics. I have tried cane reeds, Plasticover (which are ok), one other synthetic reed (a long time ago) and Legere reeds. I have saved a lot of money on reeds since I started using Legere reeds.

I have two Legere in my stash. When the humidity/temperature makes a drastic change, the Legere may be my only manageable reed.
If I've tried something new, the Legere is a constant, this helps me sort good from bad changes.
I thought the Fibracell was wild in the upper register.
I start with the 3.5 and warm the 4 in my pocket. When the 3.5 starts to play loose, I switch to the 4.
