 Buffet DG question
Author: P.Panayotov
Date:   2009-03-29 21:00

Last year I bought a second hand clarinet signed Buffet Crampon DG witch I found a fine quality instrument and now I use it like my second clarinet. The bore is larger and shorter from my Tosca and is very free blowing. I didn’t found any information about this Buffet clarinets avalable on the internet or on the Bufet site . What is the mystery? Do you have any experience with these instruments and can you give me more information.
Thanks,

Pavlin Panayotov

Mark has put a truly excellent Search function on this board. A search on Buffet and DG finds a number of earlier posts on the DG, which was renamed the Festival. See, for example, http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=222717&t=222717.

The Festival was around well before the DG which was introduced in 1993, though the DG has been discontinued and was not renamed the Festival.

Here's an article and listing about the DG I've copied word for word (and spelling errors) from John Myatt's catalogue from 1993:

"The Buffet DG clarinet is another Prestige model instrument to accompany the R13,
RC, & Festival Prestige models already available. Developed by Daniel Gautier, a top
Parisian clarinettist, this handsome instrument has the same unstained African
Blackwood and jewellers finish as the other Prestige models but without the
left hand Eb key. The tenons have metal rings and the ring keys are a new design,
feeling flatter and resembling the Selmer design. The bore size is 14.6mm, about
average for Buffet clarinets with a large top flare similar to the RC but more so and a
lower flare which is more than the R13. The speaker tube is high, similar to the RC
& Festival and the overall design is more akin to the RC than the R13 but with a
brighter & more expansive sound. The "A" clarinet is expected to be in production
later this year."

And the listing for the DG from 1993 (both Bb and A are the same price - the A was supplied without a case):

DG PRESTIGE, new model, designed by Daniel
Gaultier, unstained Granadilla wood, jeweller's finish SP keys,
adjustable thumbrest, metal tenon rings, new design ring
keys, special bore..............................................£1,975.....POA
DG PRESTIGE pair, new models, designed by Daniel
Gaultier, unstained Granadilla wood, jeweller's finish SP keys,
adjustable thumbrest, metal tenon rings, new design ring
keys, special bore..............................................£3,950.....POA

Chris -

Thanks for the correction. As I recall, my information came from François Kloc at a KlarinetFest, and he obviously mis-remembered.

I think the DG was discontinued around 1999-2000.
