 Charles Draper/Beethoven Septet
Author: graham
Date:   2009-03-31 13:23

This 1930 recording has been issued by a Japanese label: Opus Kura with an issue number OPK2078.

As I said on this board 10 years ago, based on knowledge of the 78s, the performance is a bit strange in places. In the slow movement in particular, Draper's use of a consistently sustained tone sounds the very opposite of relaxed. But as always with Draper there are aspects that make many players sound comparatively boring or affected.

Worth checking out if you are into old clarinet recordings.

It leaves only his recording of the Ravel Introduction & Allegro unreleased on CD (out of his electrical recordings).
