Dear BBoarders in Austin,
I will shortly be residing in Austin more than Detroit (family is staying in Detroit, I'll be living in Austin about 3 weeks out of every month - new job, but pulling the kids out of school for the next year and a half isn't a good idea for many reasons).
I need to have a boatload of work done on my clarinet, and this is probably the best time since I'm really, really busy getting everything set up for this move and my practice time is really spotty. Any suggestions?
And if you know of any relatively inexpensive studio or 1 bedroom apartments for rent in the NW side of town (near the Arboretum - my new office will be right on N. Capital of Texas Highway) let me know.

Mark,
I haven't had any major work done but the guys at the Brook Mays store on Ben White Blvd and S. Lamar helped me out with a little problem I was having with my A clarinet a few months back.
As for apartments, well, things are pretty tight as you are probably discovering. We moved into a house north on the MoPac expressway about five miles north of the Arboretum three months ago. There are a bunch of apartments close to us off of Well Branch Parkway that you might check out. I work at a church about five minutes from the Arboretum and there are a few apartments across the street, but I don't know what the occupancy situation is there. I could give you the names and number of those places if you like. The general consensus among folks I talk to is that for the time being you probably want to stay away from 183 north as the traffic is just plain hell.
Drop me an e-mail if I can be of any further assistance.
Brian

Mark,
Alan Franklin at Strait Music Co. is who every professional (that I know) in the Austin area takes their clarinets to. It's located on 5th St., a little east of Lamar. Their phone # is 512-476-6927.
Good luck finding an apartment, you might need it.
