I'm not sure if I am playing this correctly.
The count is 6/8 with a dotted quarter note = 104.
Do I set my metronome at 104?
It seems slow when I play.
Thanks, Dan

Yes, you are correct.
Maybe set your metronome to play the triplet pattern...if it has that capability.
What piece is it that you are playing?

Thanks!
It's from Sigmund Hering's Forty Progressive Etudes for Trumpet (#24) which I found in a used book store. It's the best $1.50 I have every spent.
My metronome has a 6 beat tap button.

6/8 with tempo defined by a dotted 1/4 note is expected to be played with two beats per measure.
if the tempo is referenced to 1/8th note, it is counted in 6 beats per measure.

To expand on Bob's thoughts:
At dotted quarter = 104, you should be playing three eighth notes for every click of the metronome.
6/8 time can be counted two different ways.
6/8 in a slow tempo is counted:
1 2 3 4 5 6
Fast 6/8 can be counted:
1 + a 2 + a
There are numerous ways/verbiage to count this time signature. The two above reflect the number of beats you would see from a conductor if you were playing the piece in an ensemble.
