Your sarcasm is uncalled for. Yes I know how to use Google; no I didn't know the above phrase was in fact (a paraphrase of) the book title. (As is evident by the fact that I asked for the title.) Is a polite response so hard? Perhaps even a polite answer to the questions? For those who'd like the information without being insulted:

Title: From the Clarinet D'Amour to the Contra Bass: A History of Large Size Clarinets, 1740-1860
Author: Albert R. Rice
Publisher: Oxford University Press
Available from the publisher: http://www.oup.com/us/catalog/general/subject/Music/PerformanceStudiesAppliedMusic/WindsBrass/?view=usa&ci=9780195343281

I didn't mean to insult you, sorry. For me it was very obvious that the subject referred to the book title.

You, on the other hand, insinuate that the original poster was inconsiderate enough not to leave a trace of a hint.

Let's call it a draw. :)

Having found this thread a few minutes after practicing on my contra-alto, I just added Rice's book to my "want" list. Thanks for the reference!

I'm sorry if I contributed anything by shortening the title to the key words. Mine was on back order from Amazon for several months, my kids bot it for me back in July. As withj Al's Baroque and Classical cl books , its so comprehensive its hard to describe. Prob. B&N and others will have it, mine was some $90, so those of lesser interest could ask their fav. library to obtain it. PM thots, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I [and prob. others] have just rec'd an EM from Amazon.com, in which the new price for Al Rice's fine book [ read the reviews by cl experts] is reduced to $85.30, waiting time 1-2 months. Is this Ok to post ? GBK ? Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Holy cow. Well, at that price, maybe I'll go read it in the Library of Congress....

I signed up for a Barnes & Noble account and, after a year or so, got a 1-time card good for 50% off on any single order. I used it to get the Shackleton catalog and the Rice classical clarinet book for $75 instead of $150. I didn't renew the B&N account and so don't know whether they still offer that benefit, but it would be worth exploring.
