 Copland Clarinet Concerto
Author: suavkue

I'm planning on trying this Concerto for a Concerto Competition next year at my school.

What I'm looking for are score + parts to this piece for the original instrumentation (harp, piano, strings; the Sheet Music Plus one is just a score, I think). I've already searched through this forum and haven't found anything. Does anyone know where I can find the score + parts to this piece?

Thanks.

You'll probably have to contact the publisher or a rental company. I am also auditioning for a competition next year with this piece, and my director said that the last time they played the Copland, the parts were extremely hard to track down, and the rental company actually for some reason couldn't get the parts. So the orchestra ended up borrowing a professional orchestra's rental parts.

Talk to your director or librarian to try and track down a rental company that has parts.

Good luck,

Neal

Yes, this is a rental. I have heard that the string parts are quite difficult and you need a lot of rehearsal or really super strings.

More importantly, you need a conductor who is crystal clear in his beat pattern and knowledge of the piece ...GBK

Copland's music is managed (very strictly) by Boosey & Hawkes. You'll want to go to their website, click on "Rental & Licensing," and go from there. The page has lots of information on rentals, the online forms, and contact information.

A word of warning - I've heard that B&H can also be very strict on the actual performance of the works they manage, so do have your ensemble prepared to take on the piece as is.
