Thought this might be of interest to some clarinetists who may have had him work on their instruments at the old Miller and MacGibbon Music Store in Milwaukee. Here, noted for his bassoons, he was also noted for his accoustical knowledge of the Buffet clarinet. One day, back around 1966, he scared me half to death when, after measuring and consulting a chart, he grabbed the top joint of my new R13 and proceeded to ream out the top bore with a hand held auger--sawdust dropping out before my eyes--while smoking a pipe upside down. Turned out, he was absolutely correct in what he was doing and my clarinet has played well ever since. Anyway, I found this article:
