Trying to find a clarinet trio
Author: stevethemusicman

Hi All,
When I was in the army band I played and performed a clarinet trio many times. It might have been Tchaikovsky but I'm not sure. The trio was most likely for Violin, Flute or Clarinet.

I've been searching for it with no luck. Here is a link to what I remembered (I did it with midi) on the following site.

http://www.recorddemo.com/Trio.mp3

There are only a few bars. I started the trio with the Harmonies as I remembered then did the rest of the few bars solo. I really want to find this music.

Thanks, Steve

You may try looking at the Clarinet Institute of Los Angeles web site. It has a lot of classical sheet music that you can download.

I know what it is from the clip and I have it back at the band hall (I'm an army musician too). I just can't think of the name of it.

If you don't have an answer within 24 hours, I'll have had a chance to come back here and let you know what it is. But now it's off to bed and a full day of work tomorrow. Sometime after work I'll be back and if you don't have an answer, I will.

Hi Alexi,

First and foremost thank you for protecting me and our country. When I was in the Army people used to spit at us and call us baby killers. I loved the Army and loved serving my country.

Yes, please send me the name. It was in the Army Band and performed it at many a concert as well as once in the Mall in Central Park. I was in the 1st US Army band also called the 26th Army Band in Fort Wadsworth. As well as the 328th Army Band in the Brooklyn Army terminal. I loved serving my country and would do it again if I was a bit younger.

It's the Beethoven Trio for Two Oboes and English Horn. You'll find a version for 3 Bb clarinets at the back of the Langenus Method, Book 3.

Thanks to all,

Hearing it again was wonderful. I'm going to buy the sheet music. I was able to download the midi file but I want the real thing.

Thanks again,

Steve

Hi Again Alexi,

When you find it can you tell me the publisher? It was transcribed I believe for Clarinets and I'd like to get that copy.

Thanks,

Steve

Man Ken is good! lol. I was pretty sure it was the beethoven trio, but I didn't know where to find it, and I didn't want to take a wild stab especially since I knew I had it somewhere.

If you have the midi file, and someone you know has Finale, you can import it and print it out.

Hi,

Yes, I already found it in MIDI. I have Finale, Sibelius, and mostly use Sonar and actually found a few midi versions of it, but I like to purchase the sheet music for the expression.

I love midi and those 3 programs.

Thanks,

Steve

I don't have the publisher. But what I have is Beethoven Opus 87. I think it was for three oboes, or english horn something like that. But hopefully the opus that it is will be a start in a the right direction. I just have a score that looks like it was printed off of a midi, but I knew it had the piece written on it.

http://www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=14329 is one place to get it.

...don't get me wrong - how can one play and perform a piece many times yet not remember what piece it was?
(I know that one tends to forget a load of things while in the army, but still...)

Hi Ben,

I'm 61 years old. I haven't played Clarinet in about 40 years (maybe a little less than that). The last time I did play the Trio was 40 years ago ( I wasn't even 21 when I got out of the Army). Of course I can forget. How old are you? If you aren't near my age all I can say is "WAIT........". Your turn is coming too ;)

Steve,

...I guess you have a point there. Not for a second I've thought of a time warp between army service and civil time.
Now that you mention it, I'd probably have a tough moment calculating how much Trotyl or Plastite was necessary to blast that damn dam...
Yup, my time's coming too. Maybe it's comforting that I forget about that every so often. [wink]

Hi Alexi,

The one I had used in the service was transcribed for Clarinets and I think the link you sent is as well. I'm going to print it (yikes, it is a lot of pages but of course it's all 3 parts and I'll print double sided).

This one looks like the best so far.

Thanks for your help,
Steve
