Francois Louis ligatures for Eb clarinet
Author: blacksillouette

Does anyone know what Francois Louis ligature would fit onto a hard rubber Eefer mouthpiece? I know they make soprano sax ligs. Do you know what fit (small, medium or large) would fit this size mouthpiece?
I don't have access to be able to try them first so I am left having to place an order and would like to get the order right before I find out that it doesn't fit!

Thanks!

Kim

The Sop. Sax FL ligature does not work on the Eb clarinet. It's a different shape and design. Call Roberto in NYC, and order one for Eb, if Francois is making them these days?

I use a Harrison "gold" on Eb, and FL ligatures on all my other horns. I've been bugging Roberto & Francois to send some new ligatures for the Effer. Maybe your request will push them to move on the idea?

BTW: The new FL design ligature is a vast improvement over the old FLs, which were great, but often slipped off at inappropriate times!

Thanks for the advice.
Quick question about the new style of the FL ligs. Which one is the new one? Is is the design with the screw on the front (like Otto Link) or the model with the screw on the back? I bought the Silver Bb clarinet lig for my clarinet and had both designs to choose from. I liked the one I chose for tone quality and found that the screw on the front held the reed very tight. Is this then, the new model?

thanks.

P.S. Can you recommend any other ligatures for Eefer?

Hi blacksillouette:

The only Clarinet/Bass Clarinet FL ligs I use have the screws on top, away from your chin.

The "new" design has thicker rails around the lig, instead of the thin wires, hence the better grip when you remove the mpc & reed for a quick change of instruments or swabing. As you know, the older FLs often slipped off during a quick change, so I and many others, told Roberto & Francois to alter the design and make it more "user" friendly. Amazingly he did, and the new design is a vast improvement!

As to other Effer ligs: It's tough not knowing your mpc or the size, as they vary quite a bit. I use an old "gold" Harrison, but many of the sponsers on this BBoard offer good Eb ligs. So take a look around & see what fits first, then how it sounds. Ligatures have changed tremendously over the past 20 years, so you now have many to choose from. You may find an old metal "FRANCE" Eb lig around, I have one from the 1960s that still plays great (just a bit brighter than my Harrison).

Good luck in your search.

JJM,
I am familiar with the thicker rail ligature and have tried them too. The one that I bought though has the screw on the same side as the reed. It's quite different from the ones I have seen, which is why I initially thought it was the new design. Any idea as to where this design came from?

Hi blacksillouette:

I have never seen an FL lig for Clarinet with the screw on the reed side. That would be too close to your chin, isn't it?

All the FLs I have, or have ever seen, have the screw on the top of the mpc.

There were some sax ligs made years ago, that Francois tried the reverse screw on the reed side. They were all rejected. Could you possibly have one of those old ones that fits on your Clarinet mpc?

You might try contacting Roberto, who is in close contact with Francois, to ask about your unique lig?

P.S. You'll notice on FLs website, the first photo has the older model lig with the reed and screw on the same side! That is not being sold here anymore, and wasn't made for Clarinet, only Sax.

YES! That's it! It is a little close to the chin, in fact! I am going to contact Roberto to find out about this. Weird!
Thanks for the advice.
