Im looking at two clarinets with a view to purchasing one of them. I know of the B&H make but not the Borgani make.

Can anyone help on the Borgani's quality and type?

Wasn't even aware that Borgani made clarinets, but they're fairly well known in the saxophone world -- I'd say their saxes are generally considered to be not the best, but of decent quality. In the past their specialty was soprano saxes, before most other manufacturers started making those, and the Borgani soprano was considered to be one of the better intermediate instruments and a pretty good value for the money.

Are you talking about their saxophones in the past? Lately it is very different. They are now (for some years now) make excellent professional models only, that are VERY respected in the saxophone world. They make unique instruments that are slightly different than the "regular" (big) companies. I guess something like an equivilent in the clarinet world is the smaller makers like Eaton, Chadash, etc. I've tried several of their new saxophones.

I think it's probably best to play safe and go with the B&H clarinet as most people will be familliar with them.

Do you know which model B&H it is?

The B&H I was looking at has gone but there is a 400 on offer. What are they like?

B&H 400 clarinets are made by Amati, as are Corton (and several other brands).
I once had a Corton clarinet, and it was a decent player.

Well with all the information Ive been given and after speaking to my teacher this morning I decided to have another look at the Buffet B12.

Luckily for me a I found a brilliant one, fully refurbished and at a bargain price so thats what I went for.

Fingers crossed I should have it by Tuesday next week.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.

The B12 will last you for years, and when you upgrade to a wooden clarinet it's best to keep hold of the B12 as a back-up clarinet for those outdoor concerts where you wouldn't want to play a wooden one, or for when your wooden one is being serviced so you still have a clarinet to use in the meantime.
