I found that article somewhat confusingly worded, but if I understand it correctly, Albena Danailova has been named one of the four rotating concertmasters of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. Although they share some (but not all) personnel with the Vienna Philharmonic, do they have the same concertmaster(s)? The article also notes that she's still in her two-year probationary period with the Vienna Philharmonic. And,
>>Of 149 players in the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, seven are women; of 120-some full-fledged members of the Vienna Philharmonic (the numbers shift regularly because of the probation period), three are women.
>>
An improvement, yes, but these orchestras still have a long way to go before they come close to ending gender discrimination.
