The conductor of a band in which I play wants to program a Krommer Concerto for Two Clarinets on one of our concerts next fall (2009).
I found two of them listed in the Groves Dictionary of Music, op. 35 (1802?) and op. 91 (1815?).
I don't know either of these pieces as of yet. I would like to know if there are any recordings of these works (with either orchestra or band) and where to obtain scores and parts.
Our conductor knows an arranger who is able and willing to transrcibe an orchestral score to a band score for us.
Can anyone direct me to sources (recordings, scores, etc.) regarding these pieces?
Thanks a lot, Randy

Sabine Meyer and her student Julian Bliss made an excellent recording of this concerto, along with the Spohr concerto for two clarinets, which I highly recommend. And, better yet, the CD is under 10 dollars (last time I checked) from Amazon.

There is also a recording on Koch Schwann with Don and Cindy Christensen playing Crusell's transcription of the Op. 35 concerto for 2 clarinets and military band.
And, just for the record, Spohr did not write a 2-clarinet concerto. In addition to the Krommer op. 91, the Meyer/Bliss recording includes Spohr's 2nd Concerto (Bliss) and 4th Concerto (Meyer).
Best regards,
jnk

mrn,
Thanks for your reply re Krommer's Concerti for two clarinets. I tried downloading the scores/parts but a message came up saying Opus (software?) couldn't be found. The downloaded version was mostly unreadable.
Thanks for you help anyways.

jnk,
That's my bad. The CD is still yet to arrive and I had assumed from the title that it was Spohr and Krommer duo concertos, when it is clearly not. Thank you for correcting the mistake.

The 3rd movt of Op 91 has been transcribed for band by Brandon Ulrich. He is a band director for Rochester Public Schools in Michigan. You could Google him to find his phone number. I can get you his email address if you email me. It cost only $60. You can hear it performed on this You-Tube video.
