It looks like Kooiman is making a slightly different version of their maestro thumb rest with more material at the top of the curve. Compare the two links:

Can anyone confirm this? I'm thinking about switching to the Kooiman and the newer model seems better to me.

Yes, he has improved the design. The "thumb hook" is now made out of metal, as the older plastic ones had a tendency to snap. I have a couple on order. I would recommend the switch, it's certainly worth it.

Both the Etude and Maestro have been recently improved.
I have sampled both and really like the improvements to what was already a great product.
The newer Maestro has a larger thumb pad than before and the edges on the "casing" (that the tip of the thumb touches) have been rounded. These still use the same mounting plate, so if you have the old model, you can buy a new Maestro and just slide it on without any modifications to your instrument.

Thanks for the info! Does anyone know of somewhere in the US where the new model is available? I've called a few stores with no luck so far.

I got my Kooiman about two years ago, and it looks just like the Maestro 2, so I'm not sure how new it is. I do like it, but it took some getting used to. It's very well made (unlike the plastic version), and I haven't had any trouble with it.
