I don't know the first thing about clarinets. My son plays multiple instruments and he asked if I could find out the value of a Boosey & Hawkes, Edgeware, made in London, serial #N129800. Some of the corks need to be replaced. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Annie

Hi Annie,
For insurance valuation purposes, the modern equivalent of an Edgware is a Buffet E11 or Yamaha YCL-450.
This one (N129800) was made in the later half of the '50s.
It's worth having rebuilt if he likes the tone, though if you do plan on having it fully overhauled, make sure whoever's doing the work gives plenty of venting on the ring keys as they can be stuffy if undervented (which most tend to be as B&H used really thick corks everywhere).
And make sure the barrel is the full length one - 67mm is the proper length, though it may still need to be pulled out between 1-2mm to put the clarinet in tune with itself. Any shorter length barrels (less than 67mm) will cause serious tuning issues, mainly making the throat notes really sharp.
