Hi there,
My son, age 9 but small size, just started his Clarinet lessons. His tecaher said there was a company selling a Eb Clarinet fro kids an dhe recalled they were from Denver. Any idea about where could I locate that? Thanks,
Regards
Johnny

He is probably speaking of the KinderClar (I think that's the name). Anyway it is available through the Woodwind & Brasswind. Just go to the home page on this site and explore the menus. Their contact information is listed and you can call them.

By all means I have nothing against this clarinet, but when parents want to start there kids in on clarinet early, both I and my own teacher usually tell them it would be better to just wait until their hands are large enough to hold a normal clarinet, I think the Kinderclarinet has a couple of keys missing to make playing more managable, but the one kid I've taught and the two my teachers taught, have a had a lot of trouble switching to a B flat clarinet after learning on the simple model. I would suggest waiting, so that they can learn from the beginning and not have to change their ways. Well thats my two cents!

Yes, the Kinder clarinet has several keys missing, and would therefore not be suitable after a child has been learning for a while.
I found the Kinder clarinet to have all the difficulties of playing an Eb clarinet, i.e. it needed a tight embouchure and extra firm breath pressure; pitch was wild without an experienced embouchure; it was cruel to the lower lip. A beginner on clarinet has enough problems without adding all these! And going from this instrument to the standard Bb clarinet would be like the wrench for a clarinettist changing to tenor sax. The embouchure relaxation entails quite a reconditioning process and is difficult even for many experienced players.
I too would suggest waiting until the player fits the real instrument.
