fingering chart for Selmer bass clarinet
Author: Ken Rasmussen

There must be one right under my nose here in Sneezy, but I haven't found it yet: Where will I find a fingering chart for my newly purchased Selmer Series 9 bass clarinet? I'm especially interested in upper notes and differences from my R13 Buffet soprano.

I have never played a bass but my understanding is that the fingering is the same for all clarinets. Will be interested to see what the player have to report

Ken, for the most part, the fingerings are identical. Once you start climbing into the high register, such as the altissimo, the tuning will be slightly different. If you are serious about it, I would recommend to you a book - New Directions for Clarinet, by Phillip Rehfeldt. This book goes a little farther in depth than most people want to go. It has a bass clarinet section in the fingering chart, and for each clarinet, too, with loads of alternate fingerings. It also includes eighthtones, multiphonics, and altississimo things too. I would think that there would be a bass clarinet fingering chart out there, maybe somebody else could name another god source. The Rehfeldt book is excellent, but way more than you'll probably need. I guess we'll see what others post... -- Nate Zeien

I have a fingering chart for all selmer bass clarinets. A series 9? Wow, that's old.

Contrary to consensus, the fingerings are quite different once you get past G#. The instrument goes up to (and I have fingerings for) up to double F (yes F!)

email me directly if you want them. They are jpg's I think...

Mike
