I'm not aware of any (publicly available) serial number lists for Yamaha clarinets so I can't pinpoint the date for you but, according to the Yamaha U.S. website, the dates of manufacture for the YCL-34 were 1978 - 2001. Also according to Yamaha, the current equivalent model is the YCL-450. (Though, elsewhere, Yamaha classifies the 34 as a "standard" (student?) model and the 450 as an "intermediate" model.)
Best regards,
jnk

I have no idea if there is any rhyme or reason to the serial numbers, but for whatever it's worth, I bought my 34 "new" in 2002, and the serial number
is 049924AII.

As Yamaha are a high volume producer, the joints get numbered as part of the machining process and then they get finished in a more random order, so the serial numbers won't always be consecutive or correspond to a particular year.
Unline small volume makers who stamp the serial numbers on each finished instrument so you can find the exact date the instrument was finished on.
