 spam imbedded inside posts

I just opened the posts regarding the Van Doren dessicant reed holders and inside two separate posts there were words in a green font and underlined (indicating a link), and sure enough......without even clicking on the link, just putting the cursor on it.....it brought up a pop-up window advertising the University of Phoenix. Anybody else noticed this little invasion from cyberspace aliens?

That's your browser working for you ... not on this end. You enabled something to take over your browser.

They're called IntelliTXT links. I haven't bothered to do this, but the way to get rid of them is described here: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/citrus/msg0815082215982.html

If you're using Firefox, there's an add-on called BlockSite that lets you block everything from a site. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3145. You add *intellitxt.com* to the list of sites to block.

Internet Explorer v.7 will do the same. http://wiki.ie7pro.com/index.php/Kill_Intellitxt_Ads

I honestly thought on reading this title that someone had been playing their instrument too soon after eating... :-D

Yeah, always wash your hands after eating and before playing as spam doesn't half gunge up the works.

Hmmmmmm.......

We actually used to celebrate a local holiday here in Austin called "Spamorama." It featured everything that could possibly be utilized, converted, discovered, cooked, arranged, worn, thrown, caught, floated, smoked, flown, etc. as long as it contained the famous Hormel Meat Company product that comes in a can. The Spam-mo-bile made an annual appearance, too. Unfortunately the festival was cancelled this year because of the poor economic conditions.

Thanks Mark. I soon discovered the hidden little program that was creating all the havoc, deleted it, and now everything is back to normal.......if only I can figure a way to get this spam out of my posts.:>) Maybe I'll leave my clarinet out overnight and let the cat lick it clean!

Ken,

I use IE 7 as my browser, and I utilized the help screens to first find the possible cause then to delete it. Deletion, of course, is accessed through "Tools", "Internet Options", and finally "Browsing History." Under browsing history I discovered a long list of temporary files, most easily identifiable by their origin (Microsoft, Google, Adobe, etc.) However there were two or three that were labeled "unknown" or had some strange name that meant nothing to me. Anything that seemed strangely-named or unknown to me were the ones that I chose to delete. It's unfortunate, though, that I failed to jot down their names. I simply deleted them, rebooted the machine, and was pleased that the little double green lines beneath keywords plus the flashing banner at the top of the BBoard pages were no longer there. It may be my imagination but I think my browser performance may be a little faster than it was prior to the deletions, too. Hope this might be of a little help to you.

Lynn

If you use adblock, it removes the unwanted spam while leaving the main (useful) ads on this site. I like it better than siteblock.
