Please - can anyone recommend a GOOD technician for bass clarinet repairs. Northern New Jersey preferred. Can go to New York city if necessary.

Not ducking your question, I'm just not sure (now that Jimmy Yan's gone) who to suggest in terms of bass clarinet work specifically. I believe there was a recent thread on clarinet repair in the NYC area; if you do a search you'll find it, and that (as far as I know) represents the Board's collective wisdom at the moment. If anyone else wants to chime in -- ?

Check into Tim Clark.
He is one of the best!

Tony Salimbene does excellent work at Roberto's in NYC, but also at his home in Nutley, NJ: 862-208-9132.

Kristin Bertrand in NYC is widely admired. http://www.woodwindworkshop.com/

Almost all the major players seem to go to Mark Jacobi in Philadelphia, but he has a long waiting list and, it seems, no website or email. Mark Jacobi Clarinet Repairs, 1930 Chestnut Street #1708, Philadelphia, PA,
(215) 569-8739.

An excellent repairman named Yoshi (trained, as I recall, at Yamaha) used to work at the Woodwind & Brasswind store in New York. When it went under, he opened his own business in NYC, but I haven't been able to find him.

Susan Eberenz, a former Haynes apprentice, specializes in flutes but has done beautiful clarinet work for me. She's in northern New Jersey. vintageflutes@aol.com (917) 861-6234 http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=vintageflutes
