 Antique Selmer London Sterling Clarinet?
Author: slme

Hello there!!
I have had an old clarinet that my great uncle (who is 80 years old now)gave me when I was young. It has been in storage for quite some time. My 10 year old decided he wanted to take lessons, so I got it out - Can anyone tell me about it? It has on it:
Selmer London Sterling (with a star under that) Made in France, with a serial # of 6376. I believe it was made in the 1920's(according to a guy at the local music store)..
Thanks for any input!

Lisa

These were made by Malerne for Selmer London, and bridged the gap between plastic and wooden student clarinets and Selmer (Paris) clarinets.

I don't think it's as old as in being from the '20s, probably from the '50s-'60s.

Thank you!! Any idea on value? It's in great shape.... I looked up Selmer Serial numbers and could've sworn the 6000 range was made in 1919 or so...

The common selmer serial number lists are for Selmer Paris clarinets.

Although I don't know for sure, I think these may have been sold in England after WWII much like Selmer Signets were sold in the USA.

I also don't "know" the value, but would expect one to bring approximately
$100 - $200 at auction.

here's some more info on the Selmer UK clarinets with pics of a Gold Seal and Console. But no SN list. but the history information will give you a better idea of when it could have been made
