Of course. Just my luck one of my FAVORITE clarinetists (actually in a the running for my 'most favoritist' ) would play in NY two days after I flew back from NY to TX. That guy can PLAY! Got to see him live once and I would LOVE an opportunity to see him live again.
Hope someone else caught the performance.

Paquito is a fine player and a very nice person. He played with us, the BSO, several years ago and his clarinet broke during the performance, he was playing a piece written for him and orchestra, then a few of his solo pieces. I'm not sure exactly what went wrong but he managed to get through his performance. The next day he went to a local music store and borrowed and old Selmer that was hanging from the ceiling as a display, he played the next three concerts on it and sounded great. We don't know why he never asked the clarinet section if any of had one we could loan him for the weekend. Good guy, great player. ESP

I heard Paquito play about ten years ago at Blues Alley in Washington, DC -- I got there early so had the opportunity to watch him rehearse the band for about half an hour before the show. It was obvious from the way he interacted with the group that he is a very jovial and self-effacing sort of person, and very well respected by his band members. Not to mention the show itself, which was one of the best live performances I've ever attended. I can think of very few clarinetists who play so competently and so distinctively in as wide a variety of styles and genres as he does.
