Years ago I had a great book for the clarinet published by Selmer.
I think it was written by an army band master.
Unlike the usual book full of exercises is had a lot of text with help on techniques, reed adjustment etc and some good very short repetitive exercises focusing on specific difficult fingerings, intonations and response issues, which got you working well in a short time.
i have lost track of this book. does anyone know of this book or anything similar?

Sounds like Daniel Bonade's "The Clarinetist's Compendium" to me.

I have "The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing" by Robert Willaman Pub. by Robert Willaman Salt Point,m New York copyright 1949. Willaman had played with Sousa and Victor Herbet's Orchestra. Its content sounds similar to what you describe.

"The Clarinetist's Compendium" was published by Leblanc and is now available as part of "The Complete Daniel Bonade." https://secure.donax-us.com/www.vcisinc.com/clarinet.html, item C919.
I think you're looking for "Instructive Talks to Clarinetists" by Alexandre Selmer. It was a 19 page pamphlet with an orange cover. http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/showimage.aspx?gid=836063&image=194676222&images=194676222,194676250,194676280,194676313,194676340,194676364,194676386,194676414&formats=0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0&format=0
It's long out of print and sells for high prices -- $127.50 recently on eBay. None of the used book sites has it currently.
Abe Galper reprinted a couple of sections at http://test.woodwind.org/Databases/Klarinet/1998/02/000645.txt and http://test.woodwind.org/Databases/Klarinet/1998/02/000642.txt.
I have a copy but I'm not sure where. If anyone else has it, check whether there's a copyright notice. If not, it should be in the public domain.

There is a great used book site that is now called DealOz. It was campusi. This site is a search engine for used books. Instead of selling the respective book, they direct you to people who are selling the book in question. The site also covers CDs, Videos, Rare Books, and other literary and popular formats.
I highly recommend this site and use it often.
