 Vivaldi RV 559: Piano reduction?
Author: davyd

Vivaldi's concerto in C for 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, strings, and continuo is either #559 in the RV listing, or the 559th time that the "red priest" wrote his one piece. (er, that's supposed to be humorous)

Either way: I already own a set of score and parts (published by Ricordi), but I'm looking for a winds-and-piano reduction. Who publishes such a thing, and where can I get it? I've googled around, but no luck.

A related question: if such a reduction isn't published (or is published, but is out of print), what are the copyright issues involved in making my own (which I do not intend to publish or otherwise distribute)? I'm supposing that while the piece itself is in public domain, the Ricordi edition is not.

Dumb questions, perhaps (particularly the 2nd one). But the conventional wisdom is that there's no such thing as a dumb question.

I looked for your piece on lucksmusic.net. I came up empty handed via their search option but you may want to give them a call. In the past I couldn't get the search option to work right and it turns out they had the piece in stock. They can also tell you if the piece is in print still. As per your copy right question, I would assume don't ask, don't tell. If you're concerned, give Ricordi a call, heck who knows maybe they'll publish your transcription. A friend of mine had a similar situation with a publishing company, now he is published. Go fig?

good luck

Lucks has the score & parts, but no piano reduction. O well. Perhaps I'll do my own someday.

A related question: Vivaldi's RV 556, "Per la solennita di San Lorenzo" calls for 2 clarinets, among other things. The score is for sale, but I couldn't find the parts, either for sale or rent/hire. I don't suppose anyone knows where I can get parts for this? They must be somewhere, since the piece has been recorded.
