I don't use them but I know many of you do, or did before the change in packaging.

Even when I started playing them back in 1959, it was generally accepted that you had to go through a whole box--then, 20--to find a "good" one. So my short answer would be, "No". HOWEVER, Vandorans were considered to be the best commercial reed available and most clarinetists used them--that is, unless they could get some traveling clarinetist to bring back some Morree's from France or NYC. Mail order was not yet common back then.

why do the 30 packs cost more per reed than the ten packs??? couldn't you just buy 3 boxes of ten and save a few dollars???
$55/30 = $1.83 per reed
$14.95/10 = $1.50 per reed
am i missing something? shouldn't you get a better deal for buying the larger pack?

Neal, although your logic does make more sense, there is not enough quantity of single boxes for that to be an option in this case.

You bring up a valid point, though I think even from places like Weiner Music, and WWBW the price ratio is similar. Because I've debated in the past buying the 30 pack, but it was always cheaper to buy 3 boxes of 10.

Why wouldn't you want them packaged? Honestly, for me, I love a fresh opened vandoren, they always taste sweet when you first suck on them.
Personally vandorens are always the best choice for me. Most stores only have them. Rico's suck and Rico Royals suck even more. Rico Grand concert hall reed, or something like that, are just the same old rico's cept they're harder.

Gee, when I was a student, yes, a thousand years ago, actually in the early 60s, they sold them in boxes of 25 for about $2.50 a box. Of course gas was only 25 cents a gallon in the USA. Interesting enough there was a time then that Leblanc took over Vandoren, or at least distributed them, and would not sell reeds to the retailers in NY unless they stocked more Leblancs. Since Leblancs were not popular they would not stock them so we went for about 6 months without being able to get Vandorens. Remember, back then they were pretty much the only professional reed available, we all suffered. Of course when they came back on the market, we still suffered. Oh well, ESP
