Click "search" and type in the subject "oiling the bore". We just had a couple good sessions about this recently with some very good advice from experienced folks.

FYI--I have never oiled any of my wood clarinets (nine total) and none of them has ever cracked or had any serious accoustical problem. Just be carefull to swab your clarinet after each use,(two "swipes" should do the trick) and then clean the bell, middle joint and barrel tendon sleeves of all moisture to prevent the wood from absorbing any of it over time. FYI--I don't think that swabbing will harm the bore of your clarinet if you use a swab that is not too tight when you pull it through. Silk swabs work well for me. I don't like the stock Selmer or Buffet "hankerchief " type. If you feel you must oil your bore, do it once, and then forget about it. A little oil on a chamois swab pulled through a few times will do the trick.
