Hello,
My daughter has been in band 3 yrs, and is actually very good, she would like her own clarinet and I was offered a LeBlanc Soloist, it's beautiful, for $99 - but I can't find anything about this clarinet online. Can anyone help me?

Are you sure it's not a Selmer Soloist? That model designation has long been used by Selmer.

Can you take it to a good local technician first? They can probably help you with model verification - and whether that price is reasonable.
I recently followed up on a Craigslist ad offering a Buffet R-13. Turned out the case was Buffet, but the clarinet was plastic, with no logos whatsoever - and needed $150-200 worth of pads and adjustments to become playable.

thank you so much for responding :o) I wouldnt' be able to get it checked out first, and since I can't find anything on it at all, I passed on it last night. :o)
I'm hoping to stumble onto something good that isn't too expensive.

Good used clarinets on internet. try before buy. For low price and possibly fine instrument, try a Ridenour 147.

Leblanc has introduced it's own student line called "leblanc soloist." although i can't comment on it's playing ability, it looks like a beginner, plastic instrument with leblanc keywork. i'm sure with technology getting better and quality control becoming tighter, that you really don't have much to lose as it is a production model from leblanc. leblanc has been around the businesses for many years, and really can't afford to have a negative reputation if it's going to compete against selmer, buffet, yamaha.
leaders stay in front due to consistency, quality, and efficiency.
at $99 it's not a bad price. but you can get a quality wood clarinet: selmer soloist for 75% more.

I've never been fond of the workmanship of the Ridenour T147's. Just my opinion as a tech. Too much slop in the key mechanisms and keys are just too darned soft.
