I was wondering if anyone knows of a recording of the Manevich clarinet concerto? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a c. 1960 mono LP recording of the Manevich Concerto with Isaac Roginsky and the Leningrad Philharmonic, along with a couple of 20th century russian instrumental concertos for other instruments. The record label is Monitor, which was a label dedicated to Russian recordings. This one may have been reissued on CD. Go to www.amazon.com and type in manevich. Roginsky gets a BIG bright sound on his oehler system clarinet and does a fine job on this lively and flashy work.

Eileen- were you able to get a real copy of this concerto? I have a friend who is playing and she couldn't get it anywhere because it was out of print and she's using our teacher's copy...was just wondering if there is still somewhere you could get it!

I'm also using my teacher's copy. It's an International edition, and I think it might be the same publishing problem as with the Orchestral Excerpt books (Russian music copyright problem). Best of luck!

A copy of the Manevich sheet music for piano and clarinet appeared today on eBay at http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=464415912. It's a wonderful, melodic work, and not too difficult.
I was told that Roginsky he was barely 5 feet tall, and everyone who heard him in person was amazed at the size of his tone. I was also told that he moved to New York and had retired. His recording appeared several years on CD, on the Monitor label, with the identical contents of the LP, but went out of print quickly. You might be able to find the CD on the used record sites, and the LP turns up frequently at the used record stores.
