 Upcoming Army Band Audition?

Has anyone else got invited to the semi-finals for the army band audition? How are you doing in preparation, and what part of the country are you from? I'm a junior at UMD and this will be my first professional audition experience! I'm greatly looking forward to it!

I'm just curious! :)

I don't think that list has been posted yet. I have a few friends looking to take that audition. I used to give auditions for the U.S. Army Field Band, and I know how they do it in Persing's Own. And I received my Master's at UMD in 2005 so drop me a line if you have any questions. Tom Puwalslki

I don't know for sure, but if I were you, I would look at the 1st parts to "Agean Festival Overture", "Pinapple Poll", and " Russlan and Ludmilla" while preparing for the sight reading part. I hear those are always on it.

hey, thanks for the responses! Actually Brian, all three of those pieces are in the actual audition music! lol. o well, thanks though!

The woman coordinating the contact with us sent an email to us a couple days ago saying that there were people who hadn't responded yet, but that she'll give us more details this week. I'm rather excited!

My first professional audition! it should be an experience! The only problem is I'm also doing the ICA Young Artist Competition and its become rather difficult scheduling how I use my practice time. But alas, I'm looking forward to the audition nonetheless! :)

smoreno,

Good luck on the audition. I forgot that they added all those peices as part of the audition. If it doesn't work out, and you want to give the regular Army Band Field a try, let me know, and I will tell you all about it. If you want, email me at brickbinder@hotmail.com

thank you so much! After the audition, I plan on writing my experience on here, to let everyone know how my first pro audition went. Thank you for the help, and I'll be sure to contact you with future questions.

My prior clarinet teacher just made it into the Army Field Band on bass clarient. He loves it although basic training nearly did him in.

All 3 works are in smartmusic by the way.

Make sure in the Agean Festival Ov. Cadenza that you play A# and not A after the opening run as is is unclear in the part that the accidental carries.

I have a recording of my playing A in high school for regional band as the director didn't either know or care...... Much more greek with the A#.

Hey Smoreno,
Yeah I'm taking that audition too. Going nutz over the music but I'm giving it my all. I'm From Long Island, but I'm in my senior year at George Mason. This will also be my first professional audition, however I'm more looking forward to it being over then the actual audition. Do you study with David Jones by any chance? I know he just stared at Maryland. My teacher is Lora Ferguson, his assistant for the Kennedy center opera. If you get an opportunity work with him either privately or what ever way possible because he is a wonderful player, musician, person and educator. He did a master class at Mason and Blew our studio away!!!! UMD is on my radar for grad work b/c of him.

All the best...when you get your time let me know, we can see if we sync up.

hey rob! Cool to hear that ur taking the audition too! he's not my fulltime private teacher, Paul Cigan from the NSO is. but I am taking some lessons from david over break. Indeed, David is awesome. He's a blast, and is a truly fantastic musician and teacher. So is Paul Cigan. My first lesson with Paul was...well..mind blowing. lol. We're all so happy and THANKFUL to have received the two of them. Fantastic professors. And David is always awesome in studio class. lol.

good luck with your audition! maybe we'll see each other there! :)
