Does anyone know what the Eb/Bass part is like for Britten's War Requiem?

I have the score, so can try to answer any specific questions you might have, so long as it doesn't involve reading through the whole piece to do so.

You probably know there are four clarinet parts:

Chamber orchestra:
- Clarinet (in Bb and A)

Orchestra:
- 3 Clarinets (Cl III doubling Cl in Eb and Bass Cl)

From a quick glance through it appears that the part you are playing is all Eb and Bass, except for some very easy A clarinet right at the end. There are no low E's that I can see in this final section, so you could use your Bb if you don't have an A - frankly, you could play it on the bass and nobody would notice the difference.

I suspect the main difficulty playing this piece is not to break down in tears with the sheer beauty of it - that final section being a case in point.

I second that (not that I've played it, other than on my CD player). If 'War' and 'beauty' can ever be in the same sentence then this piece allows it.
Sorry a bit off thread but just had to say that.

When I've performed the War Requiem (including a Grammy-winning recording) we've redistributed the parts so that Clarinet 2 has the Eb parts and Clarinet 3 is bass clarinet doubling A/Bb.
