I've been debating on getting one for my clarinet but not sure what would be the best to get.

I used a BG neckstrap for some time. It worked very well. Here's a link to the exact one:

I hope that is helpful.

That was one I was looking at...it and the NeoTech one for clarinet.

I also like the BG, though I prefer the nylon over the elastic.

I found a harness that I use for my tenor sax much better than neck straps. The reason being that the angle of the attachmentlead to the clarinet does`nt get in the way of my hands.

Whatever brand you get make sure it's elastic so it moves with you other wise it will interfere if you move about at all. You need a little give and take. ESP

I would *not* recommend the kind that wrap around your neck with a velcro closure. I had one of those for awhile, and it drove me crazy -- sometimes the velcro would come undone if I moved too much... sometimes I'd get my sleeve or hair caught in the velcro... and it often felt like it was choking me.

Now I have one that you put on over your head -- it's like a heavy duty cord with a cushioning thing on the back of your neck. Don't know the brand off hand, but I think various brands are made like this. I think they're far better than the thick black strap with the velcro version.

BG is very good. I don't like the elastic version but you might, so worth trying both if you can. I haven't tried Neotech straps, but I've tried several harnesses including BG and Neotech and eventually decided to go with the Neotech, so I assume their straps are also very good.

I've been using the BG elastic since having it recommended to me by James Gillespie. He requires all of his students at the University to give them a try.

In my case, after a couple of months, I got relief from a painful right hand.

I like the elastic for several reasons:

It lets me get the mouthpiece out of my face without strongly lifting my head.
It adjusts to support almost all of the weight of the clarinet, but lets me fine-tune the amount of mouthpiece I'm using with my right hand.
I can swab the clarinet without disconnecting the strap.

your mileage may vary
