There's an alto clarinet piece that Norman Heim wrote that he was selling through Luyben Music but isn't anymore nor is it in the ICA Library at U. Maryland. Does anyone know how to contact him so that I might obtain a copy.

I do have a copy of his Sonata Op. 111 for alto clarinet and piano. Wonderful piece and it really shows off the alto advantage.

Thanks!

He donated his collection of music to Shenandoah University. They may be able to help you.

I'm a graduate of SU and was going to suggest the same this as Gary.

The collection is for study purposes only and cannot be checked out of the library. However, you can scan or photocopy anything in the collection. If distance is an issue, they may be willing to scan/copy/fax it for you and send it to you - I haven't asked.

I've referenced pieces from the collection before - Heim had many hard to find, out of print, etc pieces.

Very interesting stuff.

Thanks guys. I'll give them a try after the holiday! It would be nice if the ICA had copies of these too. I did get a basset horn piece of his through them that is a very interesting piece too.

Am glad to know that some of these might be available.

The librarians at Shenandoah were SO nice. I found two pieces that I thought I would never see. Thank you for your help! What a wonderful resource.

Too bad there aren't ciopies in the ICA collection too. Actually I'm a little surprised as he was a professor at UMD. Could be they didn't want to deal with it.

Dr. Stephen K. Johnston, the recently retired clarinet professor at SU and my teacher for six years, was a student of Heim. Dr. Johnston and Heim stayed close through the years. That could be part of the reason as well.

I'm glad you found the librarians helpful and pieces that you were looking for.
