 Repair People Needed

Hi. I was just wondering if any of you could recommend to me any clarinet repair people with which you have had good results. I am a college student majoring in music, and my clarinet is in serious need of a tune-up! I have some bad pads, a few VERY loudly clicking keys, and the key mechanism in general needs to be adjusted. I really do not know of anyone who can do this kind of work well. A friend of mine suggested Brannen Woodwinds; she sent her clarinet to them and said it came back in beautiful condition. Any suggestions anyone can give me are very much appreciated! Thanks so much!

Erin, unless you are willing to ship your clarinet back and forth, it would be helpful to know what area you are in. -- Nate Zeien

I am willing to ship it back and forth, mainly because I don't think there is anyone around here. I am in Athens, Georgia.

I'm not sure but I think Brannen's now specializes solely in Buffets and only does specialized setup, regulating, tone hole adjustment etc. Ask around the college, especially your clarinet instructor. The things that you need done are so standard that they fall well within the abilities of regular repair technicians.

If you're willing to ship it to Texas then you can help out Sneezy. Check http://www.sneezy.org/SneezyStuff.html for John Butler.

If you have a buffet, send it to buffet in france, there's a guy called Carlos which does a wonderfull job.... I've been there a couple of times and he has been working for 30 years at buffet... a full service will cost you around 350 $ ... they can handle the shipping.... especially because they send millions of clarinets to the states.
It's wonderfull to have your clarinet serviced by the guy that built it.

the adress is

Then.... if you don't like these french technicians, there's a swiss guy that is wonderfull... he makes custom parts for buffet and other musicians around the world (yes he's the one that worked on Woody Allen's clarinet)... anyway... he's more expensive than bufffet, but makes wonders on our babies... he replaces all the corks with special silicon..... he put's teflon on the end of your screws and axals... and all of these things make your clarinet very silent and perfect mechanically...

It will cost you about 400 $

His adress is

Then Finally if you're still not satisfied there's another wonderman... Who's called Dawkes.... This guy used to be the designer at the Boosey & Hawkes factories in London... anyway..... he does wonders on your babies.... especially if you go there and talk to him..... (he's getting old).... for the totall service (including repad and everything) it will cost you about 300 $
