Help!

I need to purchase Steur reeds. The company I have been ordering them from in London seems to have gone out of business. Anyone know ANYWHERE (business of course) I can get boxes of size 4 french?

MP Music (Marek Piotrowski) in Poland --- he usually has reeds for sale on That Internet Auction Site Whose Name Shall Not Be Mentioned. I've gotten quite a few boxes of Steuer reeds from him within the last couple of years.

Howarth's of London was the site I was getting them from. Both numbers have been disconnected.

Ishimori in Japan sells them, too.

Howarth still have them and as fair as I'm aware the number hasn't changed for years. Try again with the numbers on the website.

The numbers on the website are what I used. Both have been disconnected and no reply has been made to my order which was placed more than a month ago.

Oh, ok, I'll be going in there on Friday so contact me off line and i'll relay a msg if you like. I know they have those reeds cause I saw them there and was given a sample to try only a couple of weeks ago.

If you do a Google search for Steuer clarinet reeds you'll find a few place to get them...

I have just rung the number given on Howarth's website: 020 7935 2407.

It was answered after about three rings: "Good morning, Howarth's."

Please don't start unfounded rumours about companies going out of business.

Come on Norbert, I don't think the OP had any intention of starting a rumour. He/she was calling (presumably) from the US and may have misdialled or something but this thread only started as an attempt to source his/her preferred brand of reeds not as an attempt to, say, divert business from Howarth's to any other company. I'm sure that anyone who is anyone on the UK scene knows perfectly well that Howarth's are just as they have been for many years and, even if you had not pointed this out, any effect on their business from this thread would have been virtually nil.

Vanessa.

Vanessa - I don't care what the OP's intentions were. The effect of these posting were likely to be to start a rumour. I don't care what "anyone who is anyone on the UK scene" might know. Many of Howarth's customers are not "anyone who is anyone on the UK scene". Many are overseas. Many (like me) are nobodies on the UK scene, and we don't have the privilege of sharing your apparent hotline to the health of Howarth's business.

Read what the OP said - "both numbers have been disconnected". "The company [...] seems to have gone out of business".

Not "I've been having difficulty getting through." Not "Can anyone confirm the correct number for Howarth?"

How would you feel if someone posted on here a false statement to the effect: "I have been trying to do business with Vanessa, but her number has been disconnected, obviously her business must have gone bust."

I have to say I'm amazed our esteemed moderators didn't jump on this thread as soon as it appeared.

Firstly, don't run yourself down, Norbert - by "anyone who is anyone" I mean those including you who appear to keep Howarth's number pretty handy and the vast numbers of players of all kinds and standards who use them.

Secondly, the original posting did not even mention the company concerned by name. This only emerged later when another poster mentioned it as a possible source.

Thirdly, all regular visitors to this board (again including you) know there is a very regular poster who works for Howarth's who I'm sure would have nipped any rumours in the bud very smartly.

All the best,

Vanessa.

The "esteemed moderators" didn't jump because there is nothing to jump at. NTP quotes selectively, out of context and in the wrong order. If you read the posts in full and in the right order it is not rational to conclude that an attack was being made on Howarths. There may have been errors made, but that is all. All the guy wants is to be able to get his reeds.
