Does anyone know the location and/or start time of the Singapore Symphony Associate Principal audition in NYC on Dec. 9?

How very insular!

Not really, I didn't want to travel all the way to NYC and the other far flung places they had down. Why not audition in London? It's a major world city, do they think they wouldn't get the interest? They would probably have been inundated with applications. Oh well.

They ran auditions in Göteborg and Zürich - not that far flung.
You could have done the Zürich audition and had a lesson from Liquorice while you were there!

Why not contact Jean Johnson...she was clarinetist with the symphony for a while. She probably knows all the details and can fill you in.
She has a neat web site, you might like to check it out.

This audition is a week from Tuesday (Dec. 9) in NYC and I would love to know where/when it is taking place. Does anyone know? I thought I'd give it one last try....

Word from the SSO manager is;
"Am afraid applications have closed, and we are running full on the 9th Dec.
You may wish to submit your CV for our consideration in case any candidate withdraws at the last minute.
You may also submit a video-recording of the full audition list in lieu of the “live” preliminary auditions. The recording should be done in one-take without editing, piano accompaniment is not necessary. Your recording should reach the Orchestra office by 14 Dec 2009."

Speaking of auditions, you guys might check out;
freewayphil.com
It was on PBS here last night. It shows more than a little about how difficult it is to audition successfully for a major symphony these days.
One hapless guy spent $700 on a plane ticket to Buffalo, in the day, and was excused in 3 minutes! It puts one in mind of James Galway's famous audition for the Berlin Phil. He was late, the music stand etc had already been removed. He told von K. that was no problem as he knew the material from memory, stood there, played them off perfectly and was hired right there...or so the story goes.
The video was filmed over a 3 year period, hoping that one of the seven would make a major symphony, but no such luck. Check the PBS listings in your area, it's really worth seeing.

I checked out the trailer. It looks like a very interesting film, if a little depressing and discouraging.
I finally managed to get an audition with Singapore, btw. It is this afternoon...

Try and see the video if you can, or buy the DVD; it's not depressing at all...though not with a major symphony, these guys all are having performance careers.
Good luck with your auditon, let us know how you do, etc.
