Should I put a reed in the case immediately after playing (and after wiping off some of the moisture w/ my fingers) or let it dry out a little?

I (often, not always) rinse the reed with water, then wipe it off, then let it sit au plein air while I swab the clarinet. Then it gets into the reed case until the next day or so.

When we all put our reeds away at or after rehearsals or after concerts we just wipe them off and put them back in their case. None of us in the BSO do anything else. ESP

What I do is just dry the reed with my swab by pinching the reed between 2 layers of the swab. I try to take out as much moisture as I can before putting it back in the reed case.

I just take the reed off my mouthpiece and lay it on the glass surface of my Harrison reed case to dry until the next "call to duty". From mouth to glass without risking the possible addition of germs or other gunk seems the most sanitary and sensible route.

[and I do wash the glass of my reed case quite frequently to prevent gunk buildup and sticking reeds--and just to keep it looking good]
