Hi. I would like some input. Someone told me that they thought that older Selmer bells should have Elkhart-NY on them. I think not necessarily, but have no facts to back me up. Especially if they were never intended for the US market. What do you know?

Selmer bells, Selmer bells,
It's Christmas time in the city.
(Sorry, couldn't resist.)
I don't know what Selmer bells should have on them, but it wouldn't be Elkhart-NY. Maybe Elkhart-IN...

Don,
As a matter of fact they would have New York-Elkhart on them. You see the original Selmer importer was Selmer and they had an office in New York. Later George Bundy bought the rights to import Selmer and the bells were stamped as above after he moved to Elkhart. This practice continued into the 60's with the Centered Tone and Series 9 clarinets. I don't have a Series 10 0r 10G hanging around to confirm that series, but they may have bells stamped the same way. I did check my "N" series, Centered Tone and Series 9 before writing this post and they are stamped as above. I also suspect that Rob is correct because I've seen Selmer Paris bells from the late 40's without the New York-Elkhart stamp below the standard Selmer Paris logo.

I get it! New York CITY! I thought someone was trying to move Elkhart to the state of New York.

I play an old wooden clarinet. "G.H.Bundy" and "Paris" are imprinted on each part of the instrument in "Old English" type of printing--On the bell, however, below the marking is impressed "Sponsored by Selmer" in English-an Arial type font. Serial # is17XX. Purchased used in about 1950. It seems to me to be a pretty good horn. Knowing the Relationship of Bundy to Selmer and the transfer of the Company in the USA, I just wonder if anyone has an opinion or information on my horn.
