I had a birthday on the 4th of Nov. Figured I would like to upgrade my clarinet with a birthday present to my self. Using the search function, I got all the info on "A" Tuned clarinets. The end of Sept. I ordered a Lyrique Clarinet in "A", model RCP-575a. It came today. I have spent the last 2 hours enjoying a very impressive clarinet. Easy to play, great tone, very high quality key work. Over all, just a great clarinet at very reasonable price. I owe my thanks to the search function on this board. As a side note, I celebrated my 73rd birthday, watching the election returns.

Congratulations!! I'm glad your new clarinet is working so well for you!! How long have you been playing for?

When I was 10 for 1 year.
When I was 64 for 6 months.
Now, about 4 months. This time I am enjoying it and I am progressng at a faster rate. Better clarinet is part of the answer and a desire that I never had before plus I now have the time to devote to practise.

Senior, I am 71 and playing only 6 months now. Since you, too, have not played a very long time, I am interested to know why you chose an "A" clarinet over a Bb. Was it just to try something new since you already had a Bb, or what? Don't read anything into this, for I am just curious.

I have been a saxophone player for several decades and found that I preffered the dark sounds from the woodwinds. I have a Bb clarinet and wanted a darker tone. So it was either an" A" or a Basset clarinet. I believe the Basset is beyond my skill at this time. Quite possibly at any time.

Hi Senior et al - Being a "searcher" got me interested. You young guys [I'm 89+] are going well toward "dark" with the A and Basset cl [not Horn], but I found that with playing "research" with barrels, reeds, ligs and MPs, it can be "dark[er]". I try occasionally in playing for my retirement home friends [their requests !!], playing "nostalgia" [old songs] on alto and bass cls also, with "Heavy" mps, glass Pomaricos, seems to work. Fun, Don
Thanx, Mark, Don
