So, I'm a pretty good player for my age, I do college honor bands, district, etc., and I have a pretty good sound. My problem, and one that seems to be recent is that I salivate a lot when I play. Now, I don't mean I get that spitty, raspy noise in my instrument, no. It means that I have to stop when I'm practicing a concerto in order to swallow, or else I WILL end up blowing spit into my instrument. That's a HUGE problem, considering I've a clinic in two weeks, and a concert on Wednesday in which, being the only 1st clarinet in my band right now, I've more than a few solo passages.
I've never had that problem before, and I'm not sure how recently I developed this habit.
Advice?

I know about the often-heard suggestion to "take more mouthpiece". Now I finally know how much.

LOL! I was about to say, "Eat something," but I think you beat me!
Seriously, though, it could be seasonal allergies or some other physiological cause like that. If you're a hay fever sufferer, try taking a Claritin--not just because it relieves the allergic symptoms, but I've found that dry mouth is a common side effect (Don't take it if you don't need otherwise need an antihistimine, though.) Sometimes allergies interfere with your ability to swallow your saliva so it collects in your mouth.
Usually nervousness gives me a dry mouth, so I wouldn't think it would be nerves (but I'm not a doctor, so what do I know?).
Excessive salivation is also a symptom of pregnancy, but given that your name is Alfred, I think we can safely rule that one out.
Here's a web page from the Mayo Clinic about excessive salivation, which might be helpful:

I think you're right Dave. I've been unhappy with reeds lately, because I just can't seem to find any I like, so I've been juggling brands and sizes.
It's not dry mouth because I get bad heartburn, and so I'm constantly drinking water.
And no, I'm not pregnant. I'm not uh..."anatomically built" for that situation, sorry.

Or, after reading that Mayo Clinic link, it could be be because I'm perpetually stuffy...

Could also be related to the heartburn, according to that Mayo Clinic page I linked, since they also list "Gastroesophageal Reflux" as a cause.
