hi!
my clarinet plays in tune all the way until i get to the really high E, which would be E 6 i believe. (it's the one three ledger lines above the staff). E, F, F#, G, and A are all really out of tune--like a semitone flat. any suggestions on how to correct this? thanks a bunch!!!

There are fingerings you can use to correct these problems, but you'll find that in the context of orchestra, every note on the instrument is out of tune, and you have to use a lip or throat adjustment to make it right. Suggested fingerings I use are as follows.
For high F, three ledger lines above the stave, I overblow a d, the note above middle C. don't put the register key on as it will be too sharp, but you can put the G# key on (the throat tone one) if you have trouble getting the F. This can be sharp, but it is so easy to lip it down. It has a nicer ringing sound than the long F fingering, or the usual F fingering with the banana key of the right hand (you know, the forked one). High F# is an overblown B flat, one ledger line above the stave. High G shouldn't normally be flat, unless your reed is not up to the task, but you can use 2,3, 1,2, or 1, 1,2 and E flat key (is this at all clear? )
Top A can me made sharper by putting on tghe C# key rather than the E flat. Top B, C, C# and D are usually sharp anyway, although I sometimes find that D# and E can be a little flat, but I only get those notes on a good day.

Many times the problem is related to your throat position. The real high notes expose weaknesses in emboursure (sp?) that lower notes do not. If you can do the high notes correctly your lower notes sound even better.

That E you're talking about is an E4. Everybodies right, the fingerings do help.
I've had the same experiences with those notes. With practice, proper fingerings for me, and proper embouchure and throat positions, I was able to acheive up to C4 in tune by my fourth year. (the c, five ledger lines and a space above the staff)
