You could do the slow movement from one of the Krommer concertos for two clarinets if you feel you're "intermediate" or try the other movements to see how you get on with them too.

Consider Mendelssohn's Concert Piece #2 (or #1), edited by Eric Simon (or other editions) Adjust the tempo to something comfortable.

Thanks; saw the concert pieces and they looked a tad too difficult for our skills, but maybe at a more modest pace; any other ideas?

"Two Little Bullfinches" is great fun. It was originally for two piccolos, but has been recorded for clarinets a number of times, including on cylinder shortly after 1900 http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/Misc/index.html.

Ken, was that quadruple tonguing I heard or just some fantastically fast tonguing?

The two bullfinches is kinda cute; maybe good as an encore, but still hunting for suitable (classical?) piece for two clarinets AND piano accompany. thanks again

Claire -

The recording and playback speeds for cylinders varied widely. Many of them are at 100 rpm, but far from all. This one was played back quite a bit too fast. You can tell from the announcer's voice, which is unnaturally squeaky. If you play along, you'll find that the pitch is more than a half step high, which makes the tonguing sound much faster than it actually was.

Still, it's quite fast. Triple tonguing is actually a bit easier than double tonguing (though I can't do either very well). The players were probably flipping their tongues forward and then pulling them back in a single stroke, bouncing them off the reed tip, maybe 1/4" back, then 1/8", and then at the very tip.
