Does anyone know where I can buy a buffet b10 for super cheap? I just lost an auction on ebay and it went for $103 >:( I just need one for marching. Is it even possible to get on anywhere for that cheap???

Why not just get a used Ridenour TR-147? You can find them regularly for around that price.

I once picked up a plastic Evette (predecessor to the B10) in very good condition on eBay for under $12.

But I like my TR-147 (also from eBay) better. If you go that route try for a later version; the most obvious thing to look for is the asymmetric register key. Less obvious is the reinforced crow's foot.

You could try getting a vito, which work just fine for marching season. They can be as low as 50$ and still be in working condition.

I bought a new violin for my son for 1 cent.

Ok, shipping was $44.95 but it served it's purpose.

Why limit yourself to B-10s? I just bought a great old plastic Normandy on Ebay in super condition for $20 shipping included. Just needs a mouthpiece. Evettes are nice horns and there are Selmers galore. Be careful, take your time, check feedback and ask questions. Lots of good cheap clarinets out there.

Even a humble Bundy will do for marching. In good repair, with a decent mouthpiece it is a good and dependable performer. And in That Auction Site you get them a dime a dozen.

As Ben mentioned, consider a used Bundy. We got one at a total cost of one dollar for when my daughter needed a marching instrument. Actually, it was a freebie... someone in my wife's office had it sitting in a closet, but we had to replace a missing screw, and that cost us a buck. It plays decently, too! :)

2nd the vito

but get a new one, save yourself a lot of grief
or buy a used one from an auction site, then watch the pads and key corks start to fail over the first few months you put it into service.

the last time i looked they were in the $350 range, new

I have... hmm... one bass, one alto, five B flats, and one E flat I bought on eBay. None were represented as ready to play. The alto, two of the B flats, and the E flat would need work to be playable, and are waiting for me to get around to having it done (or not; the B flats are Mazzeos I bought at very low prices mainly just to check out the mechanism). Of the rest, the Evette needed two pads changed, which I did myself; the Evette and Schaeffer needed $60 worth of cork and pad work; and the TR-147 and the bass were and continue to be playable with no work needed (the bass's peg socket is broken, but I can play with a strap). Every one of these cost me substantially less than $350.

If you have a sense of adventure and a bit of extra cash to play with, you can go pawn-shop hunting. But, you have to know what you are doing. When my husband's guitars were stolen (long story) we hit every pawn shop in our area. At the 2nd pawn shop, there was a brand new plastic Buffett E-11 for $169. It still had the tags on it and appeared to never had been played!

Needless to say, I bought it on the spot. It has seen me through outdoor gigs and emergencies very well.

I also bought my daughter a very nice Geimenhart flute at a pawn shop.

Obviously, bring your mouthpiece and reeds. The pawn shop owners are amused when you go in there and play the instruments.

PS My husband's guitars were recovered.
